Roommates.
Sep 1, 2012 || 1:57 AM || comment?

Question for anyone that might be reading:

Actually, gonna start by laying the ground work then pose the question.

I live with three other roommates: Kelly and her boyfriend Ryan, and Liz. My boyfriend has basically been living with us for the past three months, although he was originally living with his roommate Steven. For the last few months of his lease, he paid rent for his place but always stayed at mine. He cleans the kitchen and living room (read: common living areas) as frequently as I do, everyday or at least every other day. This is more than I can say what my actually roommates do, but that's not my main concern. One of my roommates in particular is concerned with him staying with us and wants him to consider paying part of our rent (we split it equally four ways at the moment). Everyone agrees it would be nice to pay less money as a whole but I don't necessarily agree he should be expected to contribute to rent. I clarified today that he would not be staying with us anymore, except on weekends (we work together and sometimes too much of a good thing can make two people a little overwhelmed). She then proceeds to mention that he has already been staying with us for the last free months on a full time basis. This is true. Here is my concern:

When Ben and Steven (Liz's boyfriend) were rooming together, Liz was there full-time and was not expected nor asked to pay any part of their rent.

So why should Ben be expected to pay part of our rent?

The bedroom situation is this: Kelly and Ryan have the master bedroom upstairs, Liz has the second upstairs bedroom, and I have the downstairs "bedroom". "Bedroom" because I do not have a door for privacy. We close my bathroom door and sliding doors in such a manner so the hallway is blocked off for privacy.

Anyways, how should I go about approaching this in a civil and in the least confrontational (non negative) way?

Should I mention her staying with Ben? Or leave it out?
